Something is Brewing at The Hong Kong Fixer

Change. It can be so hard, so frightening. It is so easy to bury our heads in the sand and pretend that “it”, whatever “it” is, whatever the obstacle or crisis we face will pass. And yet, life is nothing but change. A language that does not borrow from others, never sheds old terms, never adds new words is a dead one. Love that does not get refreshed once in a while withers, kids grow up. In business, embracing an ever faster pace of change is essential. We are, as anyone on the planet today, affected by COVID-19 and this has forced us to think long and hard about what it is we do, for who we do it and, more importantly, why we do it.

In the past 15 years, we have built a portfolio of videos and films projects we can be proud of. We have produced for films for luxury hotels and financial institutions. We have provided production support on major feature films such as Largo Winch, on large advertising campaigns for world famous brands such as Tissot or HSBC. We have worked with amazing documentary directors (Eric Valli, Cosima Danoritzer, Heinz Peter Schwerfel) and creatives from many agencies around the world. We have produced short films and won a few awards. What an adventure!

We have learnt so much about storytelling, film directing, production management, character research and development, aesthetics, film gear and techniques, editing, color grading, and are so grateful to have crossed the path of so many great pros. We’d love to share this set experience that no money can buy with the world.

And now, the world is upside down, the economy is on quantitative easing, we are all masked superheroes of the weekly grocery trip, we have been locked down for a couple of months and a third wave of COVID-19 is hitting our home base of Hong Kong hard. So although we are quite busy with projects such as the prep for a shoot for a famous bank CSR initiative and a new microfilm, we have had a little more time to take a step back and reflect on our strategy. We have decided to embrace change.

At the core we are and always will be film and video producers. We live for the story and want more than ever to dive into the creative of creative. So that’s what we continue to do but with a slightly different focus, the obvious one: the audience and the idea that everyone today is a publisher, that every brand, including ours, is a channel.

Our brand too is evolving and we thought it was necessary to provide you with more content we hope you’ll find interesting. Watch this space for stuff on broadcast and cinematic filming tips for brands, remote video production and what inspires us. And in these times of pandemic, we are changing skin into color codes that are a bit more pop and fun. We believe any positive vibe is welcome these days. Don’t you think?
